Circles
Last Thursday there were a few of us, so we spent some time working on how our shifting exercises move into linear walking. With a focus on many of the finer details of shifting while staying structurally sound.
Through out the class myself and one of the other more senior students where playing and discussing applications of the 5 circles. Primarily looking at how different circles could be applied as a defense against different punches. We sometime like to do this, plan out the strike vs a specific movement. This helps me to understand that movement. This is more of a researching certain specific attributes to a specific movement. However, this is very different then when we’re playing with countering a specific attack or any attack for that matter.
A newer member of our group was introduced to the 5 circles. This was done by standing in and shifting from side to side, while moving in a specific sequence. The pattern is repeated starting on one side, alternating arms, then repeating by starting on the other side. This sequence although on a supficial level is rather simple, it is rather over whelming for newer students, which he found was the case. Any ways he’ll get the hang of it in the next couple classes.
